Adopt a Calico (short coat)

Calico (short coat) Cat

Gracie the Cat needs a home

Gracie was rescued from the cold Iowa winter by one of volunteers.  As you can see, she is a beautiful calico.  She comes out of hiding more often now to enjoy sunny afternoons and to let volunteers pet her.

Gracie did test postivie for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) - although she is not showing any symptoms, and FIV cats can go on to live for years without showing any.  This is a slow-acting virus, that can only be spread to cats (not to humans) and is spread during a deep tissue cat bite from one cat to another.  This virus does make Gracie more susceptible to various secondary infections, but if she receives regular supportive medical care she can live a comfortable happy life for years before FIV reaches is chronic stages.

Despite testing positive for FIV,Gracie has been healthy since she arrived at Safe Haven.  She likes her quiet corner of Safe Haven and would enjoy a quiet house with a person who understands her need for patience.   Gracie has a bit of a mischievous side to her personality causing her to dunk her toys and dry food in her water bowl.
